The success of Pokemon Go was really a quantum leap in Augmented Reality technology. Sometimes, I’ve got embarrassed by seeing – folks running behind some pocket monsters in these days. Really, Pokemon has something special that made it to capture millions of hearts, maybe its long legacy from Nintendo Game Boy system. By moving into AR platform, it simply mixed up its legacy with real world spaces.
But, is this the only game providing such an Augmented Reality experience?

This massively multiplayer Augmented Reality game is from Niantic, the same publisher of Pokémon Go. It’s available in both Android and iOS platforms. It can be classified under Exergaming that Pokémon Go belongs – involves tracking of body movement. The first version of this game released in 2013.
Here’s the first location based RPG game released for iOS and Android. It’s released in 2008 by PerBlue, a gaming company based in Wisconsin. PK is a “freemium” game, so it’s free to download and play. But, have to pay for getting premium content.
It’s a ghost hunting game based on AR. It’ll set ghosts on Google Map locations. Users have to catch these ghosts by adjusting their cameras in scan-mode. It’s a fun game for kids too. It’s developed by Games4All.
This game is published by Six to Start and Naomi Alderman in 2012. It became one of the top grossing games on Apple store, within few weeks of its first release. Storyline is simple; you’ve to get escape from surrounding zombies. Even it didn’t go well with Android devices initially, a refurbished version is available now on play store.
Endgame: Proving Ground
Let me say this first, this game hasn’t released till this point. But, entire mobile gaming world is expecting its release as it’s from Niantic Lab. It’s supposed to be a mixed reality game that would be available on Android, for sure.
